PET
(Positron Emission Tomography)
Mount Sinai Nuclear Medicine
Associates offers the full range of PET studies utilizing a state-of-the-art
Advance GE PET scanner. Positron Emission Tomography is a sophisticated
molecular functional imaging technique, using advanced technology to display the
functional status of tissues in the body at the cellular level. PET
scanning can detect
changes in cell function or disease well before they become evident on CT or MRI,
and can provide diagnostic information simply not available from anatomic
imaging modalities like CT or MR. PET is particularly useful in the
evaluation of a solitary lung nodule, lung cancer, colon cancer, melanoma,
esophageal cancer,
lymphoma, head and neck cancer, and staging of breast cancer. PET is indicated for the evaluation of refractory seizures and evaluation of cardiac
perfusion and myocardial viability. PET is also useful in the evaluation of
dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
